L8Pro Development Update: Built for the Field, Ready for Testing

L8Pro is taking shape fast. We're building a legionella risk assessment tool designed for how engineers actually work — and we're looking for our first trial partners.

Development on L8Pro is moving at pace. Over the past few weeks we've gone from a working prototype to something that's starting to feel like the tool we set out to build — a legionella risk assessment app that's genuinely designed for how engineers work in the field.

What we've built so far

The core assessment workflow is live and working. An engineer can walk onto a site, open L8Pro on their phone or tablet, and work through a structured assessment covering all 69 risk conditions across source control, growth prevention, exposure risk, and oversight. Each condition presents a clear question, the engineer selects A (satisfactory), B (improvement required), or C (priority action), and a pre-written answer grounded in HSG274 Part 2 auto-populates into the report.

We've built two answer modes — Basic for straightforward assessments where you need speed and consistency, and Professional for complex sites where the report needs detailed HSG274 references and technical depth. The engineer can toggle between them on a per-condition basis, so most of the report stays concise while the conditions that need more detail get it.

The monitoring regime section follows the HSG274 Table 2.1 framework with a three-column model showing the HSG274 recommended frequency alongside the assessor's recommendation and the actual site frequency. Custom tasks can be added for anything site-specific.

Responsible persons are captured with proper designations — Duty Holder, Authorising Engineer, Competent Person, Site Operations Manager, and more — so the report accurately reflects the management structure.

And the PDF report that comes out of all this looks nothing like a traditional risk assessment. No Word templates, no plain tables with black borders. It's a modern, professionally designed document with colour-coded severity badges, a risk summary dashboard, section icons, and an action plan that the duty holder can actually use. It looks like it came from a design agency, not a template folder.

What's coming next

We're working through the final round of testing and polish. The assessment workflow has been aligned with the LCA Standard 801.21 for risk assessment service delivery, which means the output covers scope of assessment, inherent and residual risk per system, limitations documentation, and all the other elements that a thorough assessment should include.

Once testing is complete, we'll be opening up for our first trial.

We're looking for a trial partner

We want to put L8Pro in the hands of someone who actually does this work every day. We're looking for a sole trader or small consultancy — someone doing regular legionella risk assessments on hot and cold water systems — who'd be willing to use L8Pro on a few real assessments and give us honest feedback.

What's in it for you: free access during the trial period, direct input into how the tool develops, and a report output that will genuinely impress your clients. What's in it for us: real-world feedback from someone who knows whether this tool actually works in a plant room on a Wednesday morning.

If that sounds like you, or you know someone it would suit, get in touch through the waitlist on our homepage or drop us an email. We'd love to hear from you.
